Broad Street Run and Marathon #5

At the Delaware waterfront ready for marathon #5

The month of May included both the Broad Street Run on May 6th and Marathon #5, the Delaware marathon.  Broad Street Run, which I will from now on refer to as BSR, was a great day as usual.  It is a 10 mile race that I really enjoy.  This year there was 35,000 people running so it was a bit more crowded than usual.  The subway took longer than usual, almost 45 minutes.  The corrals were so packed I couldn't get up to my assigned area, so everything started off a bit frustrating.  However, I was pleasantly surprised with my race result.  I was hoping for under 70 minutes for the 10 miler, which I have accomplished for the past two years.  Well, make it three now!  I beat my last two times of 68+ minutes with a 67:28, which is 6:44/mile pace.  Additionally, it was my first race with my new Garmin forerunner 210 and it was great.  It was so nice to know my pace at all times, it really helped.  Loved it, loved it, loved it.  Undoubtedly, worth the investment.

I was a bit concerned how my legs would react to the BSR since I definitely pushed myself like I haven't been for my 12in12in12 marathons.  The Delaware marathon was a week later and my legs felt very tight for the first 5 or 6 miles and I thought I would have a rough day.  However, the rest of the race went great, I think it was my easiest marathon of the 12in12in12 so far.  We got to mile 19 and I didn't even realize we had gone that far, I thought we were on 14.  This is us below flashing our #5 for the fifth marathon.  Next up is Lake Placid, June 10th.
