Wed December 14, 2011

Ran 5 miles yesterday morning while watching the Chelsea v. Man City game. Went by fast because of the exciting game, although I wasn't happy to see Chelsea win.

Ran 6 this morning outside. It was pretty cold out, but I was pretty bundled up with hat and gloves and a couple layers on so I must admit it felt good. It is so apparent that I run faster while outside, without really meaning to. The same pace feels sooooo much faster and harder on the treadmill, not sure why.

Still not sure about the charity thing. Recent events at school have me thinking I should do something for the people close to the tragedy of two boys who died this week from getting hit by a car. Not sure what that would entail though, we could start a scholarship in their name. Not sure. I am waiting for the idea to present itself to me.

Monday Dec 12 2011

I finished up a good running week this weekend. Saturday I ran 7 miles on the treadmill around 10am, then Craig came over at noon and we ran 13, so finished 20 total on Saturday. Then Sunday afternoon I ran another 7 on the treadmill. When soccer is on it goes by fast so what would normally feel like forever on the treadmill is better than bearable.

I am interested to see how my legs respond this week. My body feels a bit sore from the pounding, my lower back and shoulders. I think because I don't lift weights anymore, so I would love to put in some time with weights, but no chance I'd be able to find the time unless I allow the kids to lift with me, which might not be the safest idea I've ever had.

On the 12in12in12 home front, I started a Twitter feed for myself, to quickly post info about training and throughout the year, how races went and stuff. Not sure if I'll use it much, we'll see.

Also, I am having trouble starting the fundraising side of 12in12in12. My initial goal was to raise money for Invisible Children, but I just don't feel 100% committed. Not sure what I am going to do. We'll see.

Wed December 7 2011

Pearl Harbor day today, what an incredible memorial that is, worth visiting if you are in Hawaii.

Ran 5 miles this morning on treadmill. I haven't done ANY speed work since I started training for Miami marathon so this morning I did 3 intervals at 6:53 pace. But felt the twinge in my left hip that I have been feeling for last month or so. I'll ease my way back to fast running.

Tuesday Dec 6, 2011

Short easy run this morning, 4 miles on the treadmill. Took it easy, legs felt a bit sore from Sunday's 18 miler, but felt better by the end. Last mile at 8:30.

Monday Dec 5 2011

Put up some good mileage this weekend.

8 miles on Saturday on the treadmill while watching soccer games. Ran 3 as a warmup, then 1 at 7:30 pace, 1 ez, another at 7:30 pace, 1 ez and a last one at 7:30 pace.

Then on Sunday I ran 18.67 miles. Route was from home, through broomall, into Springfield and back home. Felt pretty good throughout, a couple hills at the end hurt pretty bad but overall was good. Ran it in 8:30 pace, probably faster than I should have. Legs don't really hurt today, just feel heavy. My run tomorrow morning should help that.

Friday Dec 2, 2011

I suck. Pushed snooze, pushed it again, repeated that 3 more times. Then actually changed my alarm for an extra 25 minutes of sleep. I should have been running. Grrrr, sleep.

Introducing the 12in12in12!

Morning run: lame. Only 3 miles, one mile warmup with 2 miles at 7:30 pace.

I am training for a January marathon in Miami. It will be marathon #1 for the 12in12in12. What's that you ask? Giving credit where credit is due, Craig "Pinner" Davidson made it up, but it's 12 marathons, in 12 months in the year 2012. It's exciting, should be fun and tough. We'll see.

So it has been a while since my last running post. I guess because I had a disappointing fall/winter marathon. I ran Tucson marathon and did very poorly compared to what I was hoping for. As you can see from the picture below, I was beat up by the end of this marathon. Finished in 3:27 which is nowhere close to how I wanted to finish. Guess I have a lot of work to do this year.
Cool house in tucson. Looks like a postcard, doesn't it?
I felt better at dinner, it may have been my company though!
Beat up, but glad to be done!
